We suggest using this app on your mobile device for trail directions.

Step 1: Download Gaia GPS

On iPhone / iPad

  1. Open      the App Store 
  2. Tap      the search bar and type “Gaia GPS” 
  3. Find      the app (green icon with a white mountain) 
  4. Tap Get     → authenticate with Face ID / password 

On Android

  1. Open      the Google Play Store 
  2. Search      for “Gaia GPS” 
  3. Tap Install 

  

Step 2: Create an Account

  1. Open      the app after installing 
  2. Tap Sign      Up 
  3. Choose      one: 
    • Email       + password 
    • Google       / Apple login 

  1. Follow      prompts to finish setup 

  

Step 3: Learn the Main Screen

When you open Gaia GPS, you’ll see:

  • Map      view → your main navigation screen 
  • Location      arrow → shows where you are 
  • Search      button → find trails, parks, or places 
  • Layers      icon → change map types (satellite, topo, etc.) 

Spend a minute zooming and moving the map around.

  

Step 4: Find a Trail or Location

  1. Tap Search 
  2. Type a      place (example: a state park or hiking trail) 
  3. Tap      the result 
  4. Select      View on Map 

  

Step 5: Record Your First Track

This is how you track a hike:

  1. Tap      the Record button (usually a circle or “+” icon) 
  2. Tap Start      Recording 
  3. Start      walking / hiking  
  4. When      finished: 
    • Tap Stop 
    • Save       your track (name it if you want) 

      

Step 6: Import Rustling Pines Campground Maps and SAVE for Offline Use (VERY important)
